Paper Moon tells the story of young Addie Loggins (Tatum O'Neal), who is depicted in the film's opening scene at her mother's graveside. Fate provides her with a dubious father figure in Moses Pray (Ryan O'Neal, Tatum's real life dad). Moses turns out to be a con artist whose scam involves selling exorbitantly priced bibles to unwitting would-be buyers. The story takes place somewhere in the Midwestern US around the time of the depression, and that setting gives the movie it's distinctive look and flavor, with colorful characters and dialect reflective of the era. Along the way the pair meet eccentric types like stripper Trixie Delight (Madeline Kahn) who they rescue from her wayward lifestyle.
