“The Toy” is a film about Jack Brown (Richard Pryor) who is trying to make ends meet for his family so he takes the job of a night janitor for a department store. When his boss, U. S. Bates’ (Jackie Gleason) son, Eric Bates (Scott Schwartz) pays a visit to the store for his yearly birthday gift and takes a liking to Jack. Now Eric wants him as his ‘Toy’ and Bates will pay him anything to appease his son. Convinced by his wife to take the job, Jack not only endures much humiliation by Eric’s antics he eventually teaches the boy what it means to grow up and make friends.
